Master the PICOT framework through this practical 1,009-word nursing assignment focused on preventing patient falls in geriatric populations. This undergraduate assignment demonstrates how evidence-based practice questions guide clinical research and quality improvement initiatives. Key topics covered: • PICOT framework structure and application in nursing • Patient falls as a major healthcare safety concern • Geriatric population vulnerabilities and risk factors • Fall prevention strategies and interventions • Evidence-based protocols for injury prevention • Healthcare quality improvement and patient safety metrics This assignment shows how the PICOT framework (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, Time) translates clinical problems into structured research questions. It addresses falls in elderly patients—a critical issue affecting hospital quality metrics, patient safety, and healthcare costs. Essential for nursing students, healthcare quality improvement programs, and anyone preparing for clinical practice. The assignment demonstrates competency in translating real-world clinical challenges into evidence-based practice questions and identifying appropriate interventions. High-quality undergraduate nursing assignment that combines theoretical framework knowledge with practical clinical application. Excellent reference for understanding patient safety initiatives and evidence-based nursing practice. Find our complete subject bundles at Students Resource Hub on Payhip.

PICOT Assignment Patient Falls Prevention Nursing

Introduction

Patient fall is one of the most avoidable reasons for healthcare complications. Falls are a

common occurrence, especially among the geriatric population. They often result in increased

cost of care, unnecessary injury and reduced quality of life among patients. Falls also affect the

psychosocial wellbeing of affected as patients live in constant fear of falling. As care providers,

we are obliged to promote patient safety and improve the quality of life of our patients. Evidence

based guidelines provide practical interventions in reducing the incidences of falls among

patients, promoting safety and better quality of life. This paper provides a review of literature on

reducing patient falls.

A Comparison of Research Questions

The study by Zubkoff et al. (2017) aimed at finding out whether improved processes and

outcomes from a virtual breakthrough series on quality improvement are effective in reducing

preventable falls and fall-related injuries. DuPree, Fritz-Campiz, and Musheno (2014) wanted to

find out whether the collaborative practice can be useful in preventing patient falls. In an almost

similar experimental study, Reich, Farrell, Maloney, Drayton, and Johnson (2017) had the

objective of determining if multidisciplinary collaboration in implementing evidence-based

guidelines can reduce the occurrences of falls. Yip, Mordiffi, Wong, and Ang (2016) developed

and validated a falls assessment tool based on patient’s risks.

Huey-Ming (2010) wanted to find out the prevalence of falls that were associated with

toileting. Gregory & Watson (2013) sought to determine the effectiveness of Tai Chi in

preventing falls in older patients. Granacher et al. (2013) needed to understand the Importance

of trunk muscle strength for balance, functional performance, and fall prevention in seniors. Last
