The thirteen colonies otherwise understood as American colonies were established by the
British ruler in the 17th and 18th centuries. Currently, this is referred to as the eastern United
States seems. During the beginning of the American revolution, numerically the colonies grew to
14 and there was a geographical growth along the Westward and Atlantic coast. Due to the
colonial developments, social and cultural developments emerged which contributed greatly
towards political developments based on the 1600s Britain leadership. This was mainly
influenced by the puritanism, enlightenment period, and First Great Awakening between 1620
and 1776. Therefore, the main purpose of this essay would be to exine how the social and
cultural developments influenced American political development between 1620 and 1776 based
on British effects within New England.
Puritanism and the enlightenment period were greatly affected by the development of
new social structures and cultural aspects introduced by the British immigrants. The New
England included Plymouth plantations, Massachusetts Bay plantation, New Haven plantation,
and The Providence plantation. These colonies were called plantations because of the
agricultural establishments under the English Laws. The majority of these colonies settled in
American states and introduced various composite cultures which had profoundly impacted
American political and economic identity. Puritanism implications had ethical principles that
guided the working merits and greatly emphasized the cultural pluralism among these
plantations. Puritan work ethics was as well a major contributing factor for capitalism and
socialism aspects as well as religious developments. Religious developments as a cultural aspect
promoted these ethics with a Christian between 1620 and 1640 and separated the believers from
non-believers among the puritans. For example, the pilgrims as the pioneers of the Mayflower
were led by William Bradford. The settlement of these people in New England incorporated
