Introduction

Accessing new and catchy articles online has, over the years, been changing due to

technological advancement. Social media has taken over the internet fraternity and has become

the major access to global and local news. Various recent research shows that Facebook has

completely dominated the online platforms and is the most preferred digital media among young

people to access the news. Similar social media is being used in communicating fake news,

which misinforms society, specifically the young generations (Baptista & Gradim, 2020). This

report will focus on exploring fake news and why it is so persuasive, and the factors contributing

to its spreadability. It will enable understanding of the digital mechanisms promoting fake news

proliferation and its structural role in dissemination rapidity based on the motivation factors

among the fake news consumptions and sharing (Yariv-Tsfati et al., 2020).

Fake news can be understood as the news that misinforms consumers about a particular

phenomenon as it lacks truth in it. A two-dimensional phenomenon mainly characterizes it as a

genre and a level (Jana & Sophie, 2019). As a genre, it deliberates the creation and pseudo-

journalistic disinformation, while at a level, it encompasses political instruments delegitimizing

media news. The term fake news is also operationalized as disinformation, mainly concerned

with purposive and intentional information spread to mislead people. It can be operationalized,

and misinformation is unintentional due to various factors such as negligence, ignorance, and

human error, but inadvertently mislead people (Jana & Sophie, 2019). These are significant

factors affected and contributed by the dynamics of social media contributing to multiple spread

of the disinforming news. It is mainly intended to play with the general public psychological
