Assignment 03- BTE3601

Question 1

1.1) Yes, I agree with the statement as:
- There is a lack of resources in certain schools as funding impacts the learner’s
education in several areas. For example, underfunded schools tend to
have classrooms that are crowded with outdated textbooks and old equipment.
The teacher’s job cannot be done effectively if they do not have access to the
relevant resources needed.
- Every learner is unique. They each have their own personalities and needs.
Teachers need to find a way to distinguish and accommodate every learner in
accordance to their individual needs, which can be tiresome to the educator.
- Teachers do not have enough of time to prepare, plan and carry out all of the
tasks that are needed from them. For example, planning content presentation,
correcting old materials, making worksheets and planning assessments, while
also marking the learners work and searching for appropriate homework for
them.
- Some learners are ill disciplined and can cause a lot of disruptions in class. They
behaviour tend to impact the behaviour of other learners.
- Teaching a “difficult” subject like mathematics for example can be difficult as
learners come into the classroom with negative thoughts.
1.2) Learning theories try to explain how learners develop their understanding and
skills as they grow in schools.

Social constructivism:

- Educators and learners need to interact every day so that they can complete the
curriculum content that was provided to them
- This learning theory focuses on the knowledge of the learner
- Learners will be able to learn from other learners as interacting with people can
impact their growth.
- Teachers need to be able to work with learners

Behaviourist theory
- Behaviour is something that can be learned and reinforced. Learners often re-
enact a particular behaviour that they see.
- Praise and acknowledge good behaviour
- Punishment for bad behaviour may prevent the learner from acting out again

, - Teachers can also choose to ignore the bad behaviour put on by learners until it
disappears. This is known as extinction.

1.3.1) – Leadership: the teacher needs to have the skill to lead and direct their
learners; they must be able to manage naughty children and learners with
different personalities. This would involve their classroom and school
management.
- Content knowledge: Having the relevant knowledge with regards to the subject
is important as it helps with designing lesson plans and a teacher who fully
understands a subject will be able to teach learners correctly and with more
enthusiasm compared to a teacher with a limited amount of knowledge.
- Facilitate learning: Teachers are aware of the many different ways of learning.
They try to accommodate all learners and make use of the resources that they
have around them. Teachers try to help learners reach their full potential by
making use of the various teaching methods.
- Reflecting their practice: by analyzing student learning it helps to create a link
between the teacher’s professional growth and their professional goal.
- Teaching skills: teaching is not only educating learners about a particular
subject. It’s about creating a warm atmosphere in which learners feel welcomed,
embracing diversity, going out of your way to connect with your learners, their
families and other teachers.

1.4 ) - How to design a lesson plan and how the lesson should be conducted so that the
content is carried out correctly.

- The different group work methods and techniques as well as the process required for
classroom discussions.

- A captivating and interesting way of keeping learners engaged in the lesson.

Question 2 (BLOG)

2.1 Teaching Philosophy

“ I believe that all children are unique in their own particular way and that they all have
a bright light within themselves. My role as an educator will be to help these learners
come to terms with their individuality and help embrace their differences so that they
can shine just as bright as the light they have. I will create an inspiring and friendly
educational atmosphere in which my learners can spiritually, physically, socially and
emotionally grow. I aim to bring forth an open mind, an optimistic attitude and a warm
demeanour when entering the school property.

I strongly believe in creating an encouraging learning environment in which respect for
others is essential in promoting diversity. My role as an educator will be to give my
