− In mathematics, a ratio indicates how many times one number contains
another. For example; if there are eight hockey balls and six cricket balls in a
bag, then the ratio of hockey balls to cricket balls is eight to six. Similarly, the
ratio of hockey balls to the total amount of balls is 8∶14.
− Direct proportion is the relation between quantities whose ratio is constant. If
one ice-cream costs R10 then two ice-creams will cost R20 and three ice-
creams will cost R30.
− Indirect proportion is when the relation between quantities where the ratios
are not constant. For example; 1:3; 2:7; 3:10; 4:12
