walk me through the instructions for measuring a client's RBP - ANS - ensure client has
abided the preliminary instructions and is ready

- client sit w/ back against chair, feet flat, ankles uncrossed, arm resting on table for 5 min
(height of table should allow for midpoint of upper arm to be level of heart)

- ask permission to touch

- rapid inflate to 70, go up by 10 until radial pulse no longer palpable, then inflate another 20-30

- release at about 2mmHg/second

- if SBP >= 160 and/or DBP is >=90, wait 5min and try again



what should you do if your client's resting systolic BP is greater than 140 but less than 160 and
don't have diagnosed hypertension? - ANS encourage client to discuss w/ their physician, still
proceed w/ assessment



what is the minimum measure of blood pressure required? - ANS 80/50 mmHg



for clients needing medical clearance before proceeding w/ the fitness assessment, what form is
necessary? - ANS physician guidance for physical activity form



what would you use to identify those who might have a contraindication to prenatal exercise? -
ANS GAQ for pregnancy



what is the purpose of the health care provider consultation form for prenatal physical activity?
- ANS facilitates conversation b/w the pregnant client and their health care provider about
contraindications to prenatal exercise. outlines absolute and relative contraindications as well as
space for feedback to patient and QEP
