France's Oldest Wine Region Provence maintains its title of "France's oldest Wine region"

-later renamed Niellucio
-As per Corsica tradition, all masculine words end with U VS. O
in Italian, Grape was pronounced Nielluciu


France conquered Corsica by military force 1755

Napoleon seized power in France in -1799 and became Emperor in 1804

temperatures except at higher elevations


Rainfall in Corisca -Median annual rainfall is 29 inches / 737 mm.
-However, little rainfall in the months of August and
September, allowing for dry, rot-free harvests and little
vintage variation
-Low rainfall and strong, desiccating winds also allow for thee
production of fortified sweet Muscat.


Geology of Corsica -Divided into 2 halves - Most of the Island is Granitic (roughly
from Calvin to Aleria and all points south)
-North eastern part of Schistose with some limestone
-This topography dates back to collision of the
African/Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates, same events as
Alps.


Corsica's highest peak -Monte Cinto
-at 8877 ft/2706 m, able to maintain Ice and snow even in
summertime
-Vineyards are located in a ring all along the Island's coastline
at an average of 985 ft/300 m above the sea level.

-Soil suits Vermentino due to its proximity to the Sea
