Heart Failure
Occurs when the heart is unable to pump blood in sufficient amounts from the ventricles to meet the
body's metabolic needs.
Symptoms of Left sided Heart Failure
Pulmonary Edema, coughing, shortness of breath and dyspnea
Drug choice for early treatment of Heart Failure (6)
Ace Inhibitors, ARB inhibitors, BB, Loop Diuretics, Aldasterone inhibitors. The last one Is Digoxin
Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers ARB's ((How they work).
They block Angiotensin II from binding to the recceptors which cause a vasodialtion and reduction
in systemic vascular resistance.

How can you tell if the drug is Angiotensin II receptor Blockers
Every drug with the ending if "tan" is an ARB
Ace Inhibitors (How they work)
Prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II which prevents the secretion of aldasteron
which prevents sodium and water reabsorption which causes diurisis.
Beta Blockers (How they work)
Prevents the binding of catecholamines on the heart which reduces HR, and cardioactivity of the
heart. Very cardioprotective
Aldasterone antagonists (How it works)
Block the aldasterone receptors in the renl tubules and causes a decrease of sodium and water
reabsorption nd increase in potassium retention.
