The Brain
Cerebrum: Responsible for speech, reasoning, memory,
personality, movement, sensory information.
4 lobes: occipital, temporal, parietal and frontal
Hypothalamus: Regulates body temperature and metabolism.
Controls hunger, thirst, sleep and sex drive.
Cerebellum: Controls balance, co-ordination of voluntary muscle
movement and muscle tone. It ensures that when
one set of muscles initiates a movement, the
opposing set acts as a brake resulting in smooth
and balanced muscular activity.
Pons: Relay Centre. Transmits information from the medulla oblongata to parts of the brain.
Medulla Oblongata: controls the
autonomic nervous system, which is
part of the peripheral nervous
system.
It includes the sympathetic and
parasympathetic nervous systems.
Involuntary control.
Controls heart rate, breathing, blood
pressure, digestion…
