RGM3: Analysis of a Text Task 1
D269 Task 1
Student Name: Jenatia Y. Bridges
Summary Please provide a complete overview of your selected text.
The article I chose was Steve Jobs Stanford speech from 2005. During his
speech he told personal tales, starting with him dropping out of college himself,
allowing him time to drop in on classes and explore subjects that he wouldn’t
have been able to with a normal class workload. He also talked about starting
Apple by releasing the Macintosh and using skills he learned in the calligraphy
course that he dropped into during his college days. He also talks about losing
his position at apple and how it really gave him the fuel to start NeXT and Pixar,
which later merged with apple. Lastly, he talks about facing death and how it
made him realize that life is short and you should follow your passion and live
for you.
Purpose Please explain the purpose of your selected text.
I believe that this speech was written to inspire those graduates to be true to themselves,
take time to reflect and find what makes them happy. It is important to our character to
follow your passions and learn from mistakes and mishaps.
Context Please explain the larger historical or cultural moment when your selected text
was written.
In 2005, technology had taken by s huge turn There were so many tech advances during
the year, like the launch of google maps, the Xbox 360, apple announced that they would
move to intel processors, as well as introducing the mac mini, and then intel introducing
dual-core processors with AMD, and even the glorious rise of web 2.0 services like
YouTube and one of my favorites Reddit.
