Timetables Attach evidence of the school timetable, class timetable and personal timetable. 7. My teaching philosophy Write a reflective discussion on your teaching philosophy. In your response, explain what you believe the purpose of teaching is, the role of a teacher, and how learners best acquire knowledge and skills. Support your discussion with examples from your own experiences in the classroom or during teaching practice. Your response should highlight your values, goals, and principles as a future educator. Guiding points (to help you structure your discussion): 1. What do you believe is the main purpose of education? 2. What is your role as a teacher in the learning process? 3. How do you view the role of learners in their own learning? 4. What teaching methods, strategies, or approaches do you value most, and why? 5. How does your philosophy influence the way you plan lessons and interact with learners? 8. Subject-specific Lesson Plans In this section of your portfolio, you are required to demonstrate your ability to design, plan, and deliver effective lessons that align with the CAPS. Your lesson plans should reflect both subject content expertise and pedagogical competence in the phase and subject you are training to teach (e.g., IsiZulu, Mathematics, Life Sciences). Each lesson plan must show evidence of planning for learning, teaching, assessment and classroom management. We have noticed during supervision that the following is lacking, and you need to include this in your lesson plan and when you teach:  Your introduction (when you start the lesson) must be interesting. Teacher-led questions and answers will not motivate learners to want to listen to your lesson further. Make the introduction interesting by using colourful charts, PowerPoint presentations, Videos or any other engaging media. Make sure that you use authentic examples (from real life) so that learners understand what you are talking about before moving on to the new topic.  Make sure you use local, contextual methods of teaching. In other words, Africanise the curriculum by using African examples that learners know and understand. Bring in Ubuntu perspectives by including collaborative activities such as group work or pair work and so forth.  Let the learner be actively engaged in the lesson by facilitating the lesson rather than directing it as a whole class discussion. Therefore, we have teacher and learner activities in the lesson plan.  Remember learners are not only auditory participants (listen); they are visual (see charts and other media), communicative (present their own findings), and responsible for their own learning. this means you must design the lesson so that they are thoroughly engaged.  Cater for the diverse learners in your classroom. You should use differentiated 17 Downloaded by Edge Tutor () lOMoARcPSD| TPN3703/103/2026 teaching and learning (if you are unsure what this means, please it up online).  Scaffold your learner: This means you should not ask straightforward questions but rather ask questions that make them think (critical thinking). Use your questioning to lead them to the correct solution rather than just providing the answers. Ask other learners in the classroom whether they agree with the solution their peers provided.  If you are seen holding a textbook and only using the chalkboard, it may make everyone who sees you doubt that you have sufficient content knowledge to teach the subject. Know your content and be confident.  Every context (school) is different, so design your lesson plan accordingly. We can detect any use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in writing your lesson plan, and we will give you 0% for such lessons.  Learners all have access to all or some of the following technologies: cell phones, laptops, computers, and tablets. Please use them in your lesson. Let us be part of the 4th Industrial Revolution and not be left behind while our global counterparts progress.  Please use the lesson plan in this portfolio for your external supervision.  Make sure that the main aim and the objectives are pertinent to the lesson, as we will look at how you use them.  You will be teaching Intermediate phase (Grade 4-6) learners, so ensure you provide them with the main aim and objectives before starting the lesson.  We would also like to see that you use oral and written assessments and homework activities. Compile your lesson plan accordingly.  Learning and Teaching Materials are essential for a lesson; ensure they are included after your lesson plan. Making a copy of the cover of the textbook and the exercise used is not enough.  All the best in your teaching. Be responsible. Follow the SACE code of conduct and be professional. These lessons will be taught independently, with your mentor teacher observing and evaluating them. You will be assessed on the different teaching strategies and methods you used in the classroom.
