1. As the mandolins are fragile and are produced in smaller quantities, I would focus on
primary and secondary packaging. The primary packaging could include a quality
waterproof bag that can also be used by the end customer as a carry bag for the
instrument. It could include the company name to help promote the business. The
secondary packaging could include a type of foam or bubble wrap to help protect the
instrument during shipment.
2. One of the biggest risks to a wooden instrument is moisture. The prevent cracking or
warping of the wood during storage, the room should be temperature controlled and
the room should be away from any water source, or the instruments need to be
stored in waterproof containers. The second risk is damage to the instrument itself,
either by falling or hitting another instrument. The storage room should have divided
shelving or containers so that each instrument is secured and isn’t likely to fall to the
floor or onto another instrument if the shelf is jostled.
