The number of people who live in a state is counted every 10 years. As the number of people living in
each state changes, the seats in the U.S. House of Representatives has to change. If the number of
people living in a state increases, they will gain more seats in the U.S. House, but, if the state loses
they will lose seats.
If the last census was taken in 2020, when will the next census occur?
The next census will be taken in 2030.
What may happen if a state's population increases? What may happen if it decreases?
If the population increases, the seats in the U.S. House of Representatives will increase, but if the
population decreases the seats will be lost.
