Document preview thumbnail
Vista previa 2 fuera de 6 páginas

The notes provide an in-depth analysis into Stalin's agricultural and industrial policies, exploring the leader's aims in the Great Turn of 1928. Regarding industrial plans, the notes compare the 5-Year Plans objectives, successes and failures, and impact on labour, providing many facts and figures. Regarding agriculture, the notes focus on forced Collectivisation. They include a timeline of key developments, an explanation of opposition to collectivisation and de-Kulakisation and an analysis of the consequences. Lastly, the notes include information on the impact of the Nazi invasion on both agriculture and industry and the recovery of the Soviet economy after the Second World War. The notes include graphs, mind-maps, tables and a lot of comparison which makes them ideal for planning essay structures when revising for paper 1 of the History A-Level.

2.2. - Stalin’s Economic Policies

Economic & Political Objectives
• Rapid industrialisation

• Make farming more e cient

• Expand Party’s control over all aspects of the economy

The Great Turn, 1928
• 1924-28 Power Struggle: disagreements over NEP continued as Stalin needed
to agree with Bukharin for support

• 14th Party Congress - ‘Industrialisation Congress’ in 1925 called for
transformation of the agrarian system. NEP was maintained but concerns
grew in 1926

• 15th Party Congress December 1927 - end of NEP and beginning of 5
year plans: ‘Great Turn’

• Stalin promised to catch up to Europe in 10 years

• Move to central planning, making the government responsible for economic
coordination (command economy). Stalin believed this would build self-
su ciency and lead to a truly socialist state.
