UNIDAD 3. PAST SIMPLE Y PAST CONTINUOUS
Vamos a aprender a hablar de cosas que ocurrieron en el pasado.
Estudiaremos dos tiempos:
PAST SIMPLE → hice / fui / trabajé / estudié
PAST CONTINUOUS → estaba haciendo / estaba trabajando / estaba estudiando
Ejemplo:
I watched a film yesterday.
Vi una película ayer.
I was watching a film when you called me.
Estaba viendo una película cuando me llamaste.
1. PAST SIMPLE: ¿CUÁNDO SE UTILIZA?
Utilizamos el Past Simple para hablar de acciones que:
• ocurrieron en el pasado;
• están terminadas;
• sabemos aproximadamente cuándo sucedieron.
Ejemplos:
I visited London last year. Visité Londres el año pasado.
She worked yesterday. Ella trabajó ayer.
We went to the cinema on Saturday. Fuimos al cine el sábado.
They lived in Madrid in 2020. Vivían/vivieron en Madrid en 2020.
2. PALABRAS QUE NOS DAN UNA PISTA
Estas expresiones suelen acompañar al Past Simple:
yesterday = ayer
last night = anoche
last week = la semana pasada
last month = el mes pasado
last year = el año pasado
,two days ago = hace dos días
three years ago = hace tres años
in 2020 = en 2020
on Monday = el lunes
when I was young = cuando era joven
Ejemplo:
I visited my grandmother yesterday.
She travelled to Italy last year.
3. EL VERBO TO BE EN PASADO
El pasado de am / is / are es:
WAS / WERE
Presente Pasado
I am I was
You are You were
He is He was
She is She was
It is It was
We are We were
You are You were
They are They were
TRUCO
I / HE / SHE / IT → WAS
YOU / WE / THEY → WERE
4. EJEMPLOS CON WAS / WERE
I was tired yesterday.: Estaba cansada ayer.
She was at home.: Ella estaba en casa.
Peter was very happy.: Peter estaba muy contento.
We were in London last week.: Estuvimos en Londres la semana pasada.
They were at the cinema.: Estaban en el cine.
, 5. WAS / WERE EN NEGATIVA
Utilizamos:
WAS NOT → WASN'T
WERE NOT → WEREN'T
Ejemplos:
I wasn't tired. No estaba cansada.
She wasn't at home. Ella no estaba en casa.
We weren't in London. No estábamos en Londres.
They weren't happy. No estaban contentos.
6. WAS / WERE EN PREGUNTAS
Cambiamos el orden:
WAS/WERE + SUJETO...?
Was she at home? ¿Estaba ella en casa?
Were they tired? ¿Estaban cansados?
Was Peter at work? ¿Estaba Peter en el trabajo?
Were you in London? ¿Estuviste en Londres?
7. RESPUESTAS CORTAS CON WAS / WERE
Was she tired?
Yes, she was.
No, she wasn't.
Were they at home?
Yes, they were.
No, they weren't.
Were you happy?
Yes, I was.
No, I wasn't.

1. PAST SIMPLE: ¿CUÁNDO SE UTILIZA?
Utilizamos el Past Simple para hablar de acciones que:
• ocurrieron en el pasado;
• están terminadas;
• sabemos aproximadamente cuándo sucedieron.
Ejemplos:
I visited London last year. Visité Londres el año pasado.
She worked yesterday. Ella trabajó ayer.

2. PALABRAS QUE NOS DAN UNA PISTA
