The quality of an image produced by a scanner is affected by two things:
Resolution
 DPI (dots per inch)
 The greater the DPI the greater the number of pixels
 Higher the DPI the larger the resulting image file
 Software gives you option of specifying the resolution


Colour Depth
 Number of different colours that can be represented by a pixel
 24 Bit colour (About 16.7 million colours) is best quality colour depth
 Higher the colour depth, larger the resulting image file
