S: The speaker contemplates the time she will be dead. Initially she wants her
beloved to remember her but then decides that he would rather forget her and be
happy.

Orpheus is allowed to leave Eurydice from the underworld but
breaks his agreement with Hades by turning to see if she is
following him, he tries to embrace her but she fades away and
he loses her forever.

“day by day” – Ongoing anticipation of the couples plans
Planned indicates aching desire not to be forgotten
“only” – emphasize intense desire to be remembered

“It will be late” – Tone is emphatic (expressed forcibly/clearly)
“counsel then or pray” – when she dies, prayer or counsel will end.
