NEWTON’S LAWS
OF
MOTION

, KINDS OF FORCES

CONTACT FORCES NON-CONTACT FORCES

-Applied force -gravitational force

-Normal force -magnetic forces

-Frictional force -electrostatic forces

- Static frictional force

-kinetic frictional force

, NEWTON FIRST LAW

• DEF: a body will remain in its state of rest/motion at constant velocity, unless a non-zero net
force acts on it.

• When the net force equals zero the forces are in equilibrium, or they counterbalance each
other. The object then maintains its state of rest/ motion.
• Inertia= the property of a body that enables it to resist change in its state of motion. The
greater the mass of a body, the greater its inertia.
• EG: a bus full of passengers is more difficult to come to a stop than an empty bus

*importance of safety belts
