Taal notes: Verlede , Toekommende en Teenwoordige Tyd

, Tye (Tenses)

Verlede Tyd (Past tense)
1. Het + ge

Verb 1 (V1) is replaced with ‘het’
V1 goes to the end of the sentence and gets a ‘ge-‘
Exceptions:
If there is an infinitive (om…te) then V1 goes before the infinitive

In die somer het ek daarvan gehou om strand toe te gaan

If V1 starts with be, ge, er, her, ont, mis it does not get a ‘ge-‘

I
Hy beskerm homself teen roofdiere
Hy het homself teen roofdiere beskerm

2. Two verbs separated by ‘en’

If you can do them at the same time then the 1st verb gets a ‘ge-‘
If you cannot do them at the same time then both verbs get a ‘ge’

Die man sing en speel die kitaar singing & playing guitar can be done
@ the same time
Die man het die kitaar gesing en speel

3. Probeer, begin, laat, kom & gaan

When used with another verb it does not get a ‘ge’
It goes before the second verb (V1, V2)

Die student probeer vinnig werk om sy huiswerk te doen
Die student het vinnig probeer werk om sy huiswerk te doen

4. The senses - sien, hoor, ruik & voel

Follows the same rules as number 3
