, STRUCTURE OF THE NUCLEUS
The nucleus is surrounded by a DOUBLE NUCLEAR MEMBRANE with PORES. ( The
pores form the passage between the nucleus and cytoplasm of the cell )
The nuclear membrane encloses the NUCLEOPLASM , a jelly-like liquid.
The NUCLEOULUS is suspended in the nucleoplasm . ( It contains proteins and
produces RNA and ribosomes )
The CHROMATIN NETWORK ( A mass of threadlike structures ) is also found in the
nucleus. When meiosis occurs the chromatin network coils and
thickens into separate , shorter threadlike structures called
CHROMOSOMES . ( The carriers of the genetic material in a cell )
, FUNCTIONS OF THE NUCLEUS
The nucleus stores the genetic material of the cell in the chromosomes
It regulates the structure and metabolism of the cell
