This is the dissertation I submitted on the impact that surveillance has on the study of criminology. It addresses human rights issues, the effect that different surveillance techniques by both the police and government has had on criminological study. It relates modern relevant European and British law to theorists such as Bentham and Marx and attempts to address the question of whether surveillance is an effective tool of preventing crime, or is it a controlling ideology?
