1) Latour zegt dat in de politiek niemand zal zeggen dat hij/zij de planeet niet wilt verdedigen.
Maar wat je verstaat onder 'planeet' varieert volgens hem door je standpunt, wereld-/mensbeeld.
De vraag is welke planeet men wil beschermen.

Hij vertrekt uit het principe door naar de verhouding te kijken tussen het gebied dat we echt nodig hebben en het gebied dat we beschouwen als bron van vrijheid en autonomie. (Gebied is hier niet enkel grond, maar ook ideeën, niet-mensen, grondstoffen...).
Hij zoekt te vergelijken hoe de situatie nu is en de gedachte van mensen daarover.
