According to the older version, DNA makes RNA, RNA makes protein. This assumes that genetic information can be transferred between DNA to DNA, DNA to RNA, RNA to Protein. Advanced newer version says RNA to RNA, RNA to DNA as well. Hence, information can flow between nucleic acids and from nucleic acids to protein but never reverse! Genetic information cannot be passed from protein.

How can we identify the DNA size in our gel? (Gel Electrophoresis)

We need a marker. DNA markers of known size are used, which allows us to establish the scale of sizes in our gel for the used conditions. Also, DNA cannot be observed on its own, it needs to be stained with a fluorescent molecule. Typically ethidium bromide is used, which is inserted between the DNA bases.

Closes the DNA fragment by ligating covalently the pieces together.
