QUESTION1
Mr Dlamini, a lecturer for a second-year Statistics Education module, wants to investigate his
students’ access to digital learning devices used for online learning. He conducts a short
anonymous survey among his tutorial groups. Each student is asked to indicate the primary
device they use for digital learning. Additionally, he asks students to rate their level of
participation in online activities on a scale of 1 (very low) to 5 (very high).
University guidelines recommend that students avoid using cell phones for online assessments.
Instead, they are encouraged to use laptops, tablets or desktop computers, which are better
suited for navigating the University's online learning platform.
Based on these guidelines, it is predicted that:
• Laptops will be the most used learning device among students.
• Students using laptops or tablets will show higher levels of online participation, while
those with shared or no devices will participate less actively.
The responses about the primary device they use for digital learning are as follows:
Table 1: Students’ responses on the primary device they use for digital learning
Note: A shared device is a digital device (e.g., laptop, tablet or smartphone) that is used by
more than one person in a household or living arrangement.
The data is collected via an online questionnaire.
Use the information in the given scenario and the data in Table 1 to answer the following
questions.
