안녕하세요 (Annyeong Haseyo), Hello, welcome to my Korean lessons, you are currently
reading Lesson 1.1 - Korean Daily Phrases, in this lesson you will learn some basic Korean
words that you will most likely use everyday in Korea or when speaking Korean.
You would have noticed the Korean formal word for hello at the top of this page.
안녕하세요 (Annyeong Haseyo) - this is the formal way to say hello, for example at work or
to elders.- in Korea our elders are spoken to using slightly different words that mean the
same thing in order to greet them politely.
안녕 (Annyeong) - this is the informal version of hello/bye, you will use this term
among friends, siblings and people younger than you.
안녕히 계세요 (annyeonghi gyeseyo) - this is the formal version of goodbye, for
example after work to your manager, your parents, grandparents,elders passing by.
감사합니다 (gamsahamnida) - this is the formal version of thank you, to elders,
shopkeepers, transport drivers,managers, etc.
고마워 (gomawo) - this is the informal word for thank you, to your siblings, friends,
classmates, people younger than you.
실례합니다 (sillyehamnida) - this is how you say ‘excuse me’, if you can't find the
item your looking for, when you raise your hand in class, etc.
반갑습니다 (bangapseubnida), this is how to say ‘nice to meet you’, when your in the
park and make a new friend, when your friend or parent introduces you to
someone…반갑습니다….(Person’s name)...
