Unit 19 Analysis of Sports
Performance – Performance
Profiling
P1 & M1 – Describe/Explain the performance profile of a
selected sporting activity
The sport I will be describing is football at the academy of Pro Direct playing for the
team known as Romulus FC. The positi on I will talk about is my own which is playing as
a fullback.

Technical – As a fullback there are many key aspects to be good technically such as
having good passing and ball control. A fullback needs excellent skills in ball control
and they need to be able to play one touch pass with their teammates and oft en play
short and long passes. They should also be able to run at pace with the ball and have
the dribbling ability when they fi nd themselves in one, to get out of a certain
situati ons. In football a player for example will need good ball control technique in
order to bring the ball down or take care of the ball. Fullbacks will need to work on
certain areas to improve and analyse bett er in matches. Passing is about technique,
judgement, vision and can be worked on in training. For example releasing and
receiving the ball with both feet, playing the ball with diff erent pace, creati ng space
and many more. This is the same for ball control, training both feet, staying on your
toes, placement and all can be accomplished by working on these aspects.

Tacti cal - How the team plays as a unit can be an example of tacti cal skills. This part is
primarily determined by the coach, and it relates to the style of play of the team, but
may also rely on a player. In order to gain an advantage as a tacti c, a fullback can
make choices and acts in the game. It is related to the ability of an athlete to read the
game and follow parti cular acti ons or instructi ons, such as their positi oning and
movement. A football example may be the use of the off side trap by a team as a
defensive strategy. Fullbacks mostly should be aware that if they are the last man they
should be careful with their movements to catch out the att acker. It is crucial that all
team members are aware of the strategy and can execute it during the game well. This
is why it is important that as a fullback tacti cal awareness is very good, positi oning
and reading the game.
