Abstract
There is an increasing amount of African American single mothers who have experienced some
form of abuse either during the relationship or following the breakup that has led to some form
of domestic violence. There are many factors to consider when having a child and trying to make
the decision to either stay for financial stability and family unity or choose peace and work to
build financial stability. Most women who are experiencing some form of domestic violence
choose to stay too keep the peace or stay due to the feeling of comfortability. There tend to be
several warning sign before the relationship becomes violent or ends in death however many are
afraid and threatened by specific barriers that make it hard for single mothers.
Career Development Program Plan
Hanson’s integrative Life planning theory incorporates one's personal life’s interest and
not solely focuses on the details of the career. This helps the client find a career that has some
relation to the personal attributes of the individual which ultimately may provide the client with a
more meaningful purpose and security with their job. This approach also helps individual who
may not have had the time or money for college to discover their strengths and potential for
specific careers. The overall goal is to provide a program available to single mothers who are
afraid to leave due to the fear of unemployment and financial instability however need to due to
abuse. Providing single mothers in this situation who are afraid and may not have college
education could save their lives if they are in an abusive situation and also provide a safe home
for her and her child/children. The end goal is to provide single mothers with the education and
resources to give them a better choice of living than living in poverty. The program will meet
online to allow flexibility for the mothers schedule, once a week for 1 hour. Once the client has
