AC 1.2 Write Up – Reasons that’s crimes
unreported
Always Relate to the brief.
White-collar Crime
White-collar crimes are committed for financial gain. They are not reported for a multitude of
reasons. One personal reason that this crime doesn't get reported is Disinterest. This crime
targets specific types of people and if a person is not one of these people they won’t care. Even
if people are told about or witness the crime, they often will not report it. Another personal
reason that people do not report crimes is that they are not affected. This is remarkably similar
to disinterest however it focuses more on the fact that it not their business and they feel like
they should not get involved. A social reason that people do not report crimes is due to the
complexity of the crime. White-collar crimes are extremely complex, and it leads to being
unable to pinpoint the exact location or person that committed the crime. Additionally, the
crime is often done without people noticing. People feel like that it is too complex especially if
time has passed to be worth reporting. A final social reason that white-collar crimes get
reported is lack of knowledge. This crime is often quite secretive and does not get the media
attention to educate people on it. This could either be lack of knowledge about the crime or
lack of knowledge of who to report the crime or how to report the crime.

Moral Crime
Moral crimes are crimes that go against the beliefs and values upheld by society. These crimes
are not reported for many reasons. One personal reason that these crimes do not get reported
is shame. So many moral crimes, such as underage drinking, vagrancy, and vandalism, have
become normalised that people feel like they are being dramatic or out of proportion for
reporting the crime. Another personal reason that people do not report crimes is Disinterest. If
people do not care about the crime that is happening, they are less likely to report it. Using the
example of underage drinking, people do not care if it happens because it happens so much.
Most people do not see it as an issue unless they are become unruly or if they see the people
doing it as too young. A social reason that people do not report moral crimes is Lack of Media
Interest. Certain crimes go ‘into trend’ and during that time they are predominant features in
the media – like the current interest in the banning of XL bullies. Moral crimes rarely make it
into the spotlight of media attention, so people choose not to report. People believe if it is not
in the mainstream media, it is not worth reporting. A final social reason that people don’t
report crimes is Lack of Public concern. This is like lack of media interest however it is more
about if people care they are happening. This is extremely obvious in moral crime where people

, often see the crimes as barely criminal or believe that they shouldn't be criminal at all. Whilst
deviancy is frowned upon everyone has their own opinions on how serious each one is.

Social Crime
Social crimes are crimes that are committed against the state's occupants by the state or
organisations within the state. These crimes are not reported for a multitude of reasons. A
personal reason is Fear. This can be ear that their communities will reject them or not take any
notice of the crime or fear that reporting may aggravate another crime occurring by the same
or another offender. A person may also not report this crime in fear of what will happen to
them if they do report it and who would notice because it is people higher up committing the
crime. Another personal reason that people do not report this type of crime is the fact they are
not affected. With state crimes it could be targeted against a certain group of people, so people
who are not part of the selected group do not want to report it because it is not happening to
them. A social reason that people do not report State crimes is Lack of Knowledge. Whilst
media coverage is high for these types of crimes a person may not realise it is happening to
them due to them believe that they are protected by the state and its officials. This could also
be lack of knowledge of how to report the crime though. They may not know who they should
tell that the crime has been committed to if it is the police for example who have committed
the crime. A final reason that people may not report a state crime is Complexity. It can be
extremely difficult to track down the location and particular people who have committed this
crime especially if it is multiple units within the state or government. People will not report it
because they think it is too complicated to fix or that it is too complicated to report.

Technological Crime
Technological crimes are crimes that are committing using technology. They usually centre
around the collection and usage of information. A personal reason that this crime may not get
reported is Shame. People may feel ashamed that they let themselves fall victim to the crime
and therefore not want to tell anyone about it. This especially applies to young people, as it is a
generational crime so is seen to be something that a young person should not fall for. People
feel pity if it is an elderly person but act like the younger person is stupid for falling for a scam
or entering details onto a website that stole their information. Another personal reason that
this type of crime does not get reported is the fact they are not affected by it. People often feel
that it is only the person who got their information stolen that should have to report it.
Sometimes it is seen as a joke that people can laugh about when people get their private
information stolen. Unless it happens to them most people will not report it. A social reason
that people do not report technological crimes is complexity. Some technological crimes are
extremely complicated (like identity theft), and it may take people a while to realise that is has
