Part 1: Preparation of a standard solution
Equipment
- Weighing balance
- Large beaker
- Spatula
- Distilled water
- Volumetric flask
- Anhydrous sodium carbonate
Procedure
Firstly, I started by calibrating the weighing balance,
I did this by switching it on, once it was level and
then I put a weighing boat on top of the weighing
balance and pressed ‘0’ to ensure that all my
measurements were accurate.
Following this step, I weighed out approximately
1.35g of anhydrous sodium carbonate. I then carefully transferred
the sodium carbonate to a large beaker, making sure I accurately and
precisely recorded all of measurements to determine the exact mass
transferred.
After this I added 150cm3 of distilled water to
the beaker and stirred it with the spatula until I
had completely dissolved the sodium carbonate,
once it had all dissolved, I carefully and
accurately transferred all the solution to a
250cm3 volumetric flask, and made up the
solution to 250cm3 with more distilled water.
