● problem with placement so seeking advice from responsible academic tutor = very
appropriate
● solution is not immediate = appropriate but not ideal
● reassurance for a patient = very important
● pointing out doctor’s mistake in front of patient = appropriate but not ideal
● no other more experienced staff available to help patient = of minor importance
● learning experience of doing something unfamiliar as a student if not confident = of
minor importance
● student is not expected to know everything = very important
● maintaining a positive outlook for patient = very important
● consultant is marking student’s assessment = not important at all
● main concern but only based on assumption = important
● student following up clinical pursuit of action (out of scope for a student) = appropriate
but not ideal
● asking if patient would prefer someone else assisting = very appropriate
● asking patients reason for concern = very appropriate
● false assurance = very inappropriate
● attendance = very important
● local issue is not being solved locally = inappropriate but not awful
