Edward – ACT 1
o Raised as an only child in a posh family, reflects this in his voice and his posture and
placement on stage and interactions/gestures, contrasts Mickey greatly.
o Very well spoken and is extremely well mannered with great respect for his elders
o Is the twin that Mrs Johnstone gives away to Mrs Lyons.
o Costume is always pristine and fitted well, no matter the age. (Ages 7- 16) usually
button-down shirts and knee-high beige shorts (Clean with no holes in) with white
socks pulled up to just below the knee, with little black buckled shoes. Hair combed
flat with not a hair out of place. Reflects upbringing greatly.
o Admires Mickey and his great confidence no matter what age they are, is desperate
to be like him and be around him all the time despite his mother’s paranoia and
extreme disapproval of the friendship.
o Attends a private school, so has great manners and a wonderful education, which is
something Mickey and his friends seem to make fun of.
o Mickey does bring out bad behaviour in Edward and causes him to rebel a bit against
his mother but still cares for a adores his mother, and would to anything to protect
her (Shown in scene’s when he concerns about whether their safe and whether she
is taking ill again)
o Has an unknown connection starting to form between Mrs Johnstone and him, more
strongly on Mrs Johnstone’s side but Edward is still aware, protective nature is given
over Edward by Mrs Johnstone. (In the locket scene and whenever he visits the
house to see Mickey, always a moment between them)
o The older he gets the braver he gets to speak his mind but tries to become and act
more like Mickey as he still thinks that Mickey is cool.
o Mrs Lyons is constantly worrying about his well being and where he is and most
importantly who he’s hanging out with (shown when he let’s slip that he’s being
playing down by where Mickey lives, and Mrs Lyons flips out panicking about where
he’s playing and if he’s found out (start of paranoia))
o Acts differently around Mickey compared to when he is in school. He tries to be like
Mickey when he’s with him and tries to be cool and calm and not the posh, well-
mannered little boy he is. In school he’s more reserved but answers the questions
and has respect for his teachers and his classmates.
o Starts to develop and crush on Linda from the second they first meet but tries his
best not to show it as he knows that Linda is and will be Mickey’s. He does try to be
more confident around Linda but there’s always a moment between them
suggesting that something more would occur if Mickey would’ve not been in the
way.
