HotBeans

Unit 6 - Website Development
Learning Aim B

, Who is the client?
Hot Beans is a website developer company which has recruited me as a junior website
developer. I have been asked to create a new section on the website to promote the
company to prospective employees, as they need to recruit more web developers. The
company wants the following things included:

1 A profile of the
company itself 2 Profiles of existing
trainee developers 3 Job specification
and qualifications

4 An online
application form 5 Links to web
development courses

Benefits of the website development I will conduct will result in greater brand
awareness which will attract what the company are looking for - prospective trainees.
Channelling a greater online presence, rather than physical marketing, will save costs
and reach a wider demographic of people. Accessibility to the website is not restricted
either, people from across the world and at the host country will be able to access the
website an unlimited number of times and at any time. ‘HotBeans’ can also utilise
advertisement agencies like GoogleAds to promote the newly developed webpage to
promote to potential recruits.

Constraints of the website development will be tangible to external factors, and
internal, so a time plan will be implemented to make sure the project is delivered on
time. There’s a variety of central elements which will have constraint on how
effectively I can deliver the web page:

Cost is one important factor of how much the domain fees would be,
licensing of assets, or third-party security: retaining data which could cost.

Security of the website is another implication. Keeping data secured, or
paying a third-party to protect the site and its data. If this was implicated,
it could produce many constraints on cost, support, and time.

Timescale is the most important. Making sure the web page is produced
for a certain date is important to maximise its engagement at release.
Also, working with the client and others needs to be in time too.

HotBeans

, Staff Training is another factor, often overlooked. The webpage needs to
have a short learning curve in order for staff uptake to transition without
issues. Therefore, the page shouldn’t be too complex and be easy-to-use.

Support/Maintenance is another practical constraint which will be very
dependant on time. This is because the website and host will need
constant maintenance to keep up on the domain and security of the site.

Who is the target audience?
Target Audience refers to the type of people we are trying to attract to consume the
content, in this case the website. ‘HotBeans’ has set a specific target audience of
people who have completed training courses or qualifications related to web
development and are now looking for a job as a web developer.

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) can be used to refine our presence on the world
wide web to reach this target audience through ‘key words’ or identifying trends and
patterns with those who are qualified as web developers. We can use ad services to
target the audience ‘HotBeans’ wishes to reach. Penultimately, its the clarity and
construction of the website page which will drive the engagement: by making it clear.

Interactivity and Complex Elements...
Interactivity refers simply to the level of interaction users can have with the website.
To keep rates of engagement high and a good quality of detail, the website will have
to feature many interactive elements throughout its design. Features such as hyperlink
buttons to submit forms or move across webpages, navigation bars on the website,
search features to look up specific elements, and plugins. I want the website to be able
to direct users to any point on the website and provide a better, interactive, experience.

Complex Elements refer to what is going to be hard to craft for the website. This runs
in parallel in the interactive aspects of the website as the code required using
JavaScript and HTML will be hard to develop and will consume time. Submitting a
variety of different types of data will require extensive code, despite it being behind a
simple ‘submit’ button. Hyperlinking the navigation bar to the correct webpages will
also be relatively complex. Finally, and most importantly, developing the ‘skeleton’ of
the website will be complicated too. Making sure it is compatible in all aspect ratios on
mobile, tablet, and desktop.

HotBeans

, Measuring Success (SMART)
Throughout the development, we want to make sure ‘HotBeans’ can be the best it very
can by while fitting into the timescale. This means we need to measure success of
different aspects, and the overall website, throughout the project. This will be measured
by developing concepts through moodboards, sitemaps, and wireframe layouts of each
page. By using these concepts and comparing with competitors website design, we can
compare the development of the website against our intention from the beginning. This
will give a clear image of where we’re heading with the project.

The project will span across three weeks including development, testing, and delivery of
the webpage. The budget will be £350 to cover labouring costs, licensing of assets, and
the necessary SEO optimisation - that will enhance the effectiveness of the website, by
reaching the correct target audience. All of this will meet the SMART criteria: specific
criteria's, measurements of progress, making the project achievable, relevant with
website trends, and timebound with a timescale.

Research Content

This is a local advertisement for a junior
website developer - advertising to
prospective employees, what the
company has asked me to do.

Reviewing details like the job
specification, wage, requirements, and
contract types. This information will be
helpful in developing the website and
can be used to reference our progress
in providing the best, most informative,
website. We can use the information
here to widen our SEO plan, by
including key words linked to
requirements like ‘HTML’, ‘CSS’
‘JavaScript’, and Excel. This would
provide benefits such as attracting
more traffic and refining training
opportunities.
