,Introduction:
The IOT is a crucial part of our day to day lives and in the modern era, the
world is relying reluctantly upon IoT to keep up with the current demand
within various sectors which I will be speaking on further within this
report. The Internet of things (IoT) is a phrase which is used to describe all
the physical devices and objects which connect to the Internet which
these devices are then used to receive certain data and to also forward
certain data too. Within IoT, there are four different sectors these sectors
are as follows: Home, Health and Well-being, Industry and Transportation
and finally Retail and Commerce.
The main purpose of IoT is to allow physical and devices to connect to the
Internet and to receive data from the internet and to also send data to the
internet like I have stated before. An example of devices such as these are
smart fridges, and smart televisions which are all connected to the
internet. Further delving into the purpose of IoT, the main purpose of IoT
is to allow automation of physical objects and devices which are
connected to the internet which increases efficiency and productivity
which is extremely helpful within sectors such as the Retail and commerce
and the Healthcare sector. However, IoT and its devices also help ease of
access for regular homes which in certain circumstances is crucial.
The application of IoT devices in our current day and age is crucial and
everywhere we travel, IoT is imbedded within society. As I have stated
previously, IoT is embedded within four sectors which are Home, Health
and Well-being, Industry and transportation and finally Retail and
Commerce. For example, in the home industry the application of IoT
devices is important as it helps the current day-to-day lives of regular
individuals this can be seen as smart thermostats are implemented within
homes etc. In the health and well-being industry, an example of
application of IoT can be seen through the implementation of devices such
as smart watches which allow the health of customers/patients such as
their heart rates etc to be viewed through devices such as smart phones.
For the Industry sector, SCO which stands for supply chain optimization
are also implemented for example smart trackers to allow the tracking of
products which are being shipped or are in transport. For the
transportation sector, the application of IoT can be seen through the use
of self-driving cars etc. For retail and commerce, the application of IoT has
been implemented for a number of years already as this can be seen
through the use of automated checkout tills etc. Below, I will briefly be
, stating the 4 sector and the IoT devices which come within each of those
sectors.
Home sector: IoT within the home sector is used to increase productivity
and create ease of access to ensure tasks get done quicker and efficiency
is also increased. Example of IoT devices within the home sector are as
follow: smart doorbells, smart fridges, smart TV’s, smart LED ambient
lighting, smart toilets.
Health and Well-being: IoT within the health and well-being sector is used
to help monitor a person’s health to ensure that they are health and well
and if there are any health complications, or concerns, they can be found
before any issues arise with a person’s health. Examples of IoT devices
used within the health sector are as follows: smart watches, smart rings,
smart ankle monitors, smart necklaces.
Industrial and Transportation: For the industrial and transportation sector,
IoT systems and devices are used to help the industry users such as truck
drivers and transportation such as taxi services more efficient. An
example of IoT systems and devices used within this sector is Traffic
Management systems, Self-driving cars etc.
Retail and Commerce: Within this sector, IoT is used to ensure efficiency
for customers and staff and to also enhance the customer experience and
productivity for the staff members. Examples of IoT systems from this
sector are RFID tags and Smart shelves etc.
