All behaviour is caused by internal mental processes, often unconscious
Internal Structure
The mind has 3 distinct parts:
Id: primitive, pleasure-driven, unconscious
Ego: realistic, rational, mediates between the id and the superego
Superego: moral, idealistic, internalised societal norms
Levels of Consciousness
Conscious: thoughts we are aware of
Preconscious: can be brought into awareness
Unconscious: inaccessible, drives most behaviour
