How the Body's Response Can
Harm a Child's Development

Introduction
This article, Toxic Stress: How the Body's Response Can Harm a Child's
Development, describes how toxic stress can be harmful to a child's brain
development. The article highlights how toxic stress can affect a child's not only
short-term but long-term development and lead to chronic health issues in the
future. The article also talks about the body’s natural response to stress and what
can happen if it's over-activated. Lastly, the article describes the three different
types of stress. They range from good to bad and the article gives examples of
each type and how they can affect a child.

Body of Essay-Please mention 2 important points the article
states (use Child Development terminology and align the article
to your readings in class.)
So how does stress in general affect a child? Well, you would need to know the
different types of stress and each of their effects. One important thing the article
talks about is that there are 3 types of stress: Positive stress, tolerable stress, and
toxic stress. Positive stress is a healthy part of childhood development. The
hormone levels of cortisol and adrenaline along with your heart rise briefly in
positive stress. A positive stress example for a child would be the first day of
school or soccer. Tolerable stress activates the body's alert system more severely
