1.1 Differentiate between mathematical concepts and mathematical skills, and provide an
example for each.

 Mathematical Concepts refer to the underlying ideas or understandings that children
develop about mathematics. These are abstract and include ideas such as quantity, order,
and relationships.
Example: A child understanding that adding more blocks increases the total amount
(concept of addition).
 Mathematical Skills are the practical abilities or actions that children use to apply
mathematical concepts. These involve doing, manipulating, or working with numbers,
shapes, or measurements.
Example: A child being able to count out ten toy cars correctly (skill of counting).



1.2 Define the following terms and give two examples for each

Definition:
Number sense is the ability to understand, relate, and connect numbers. It involves recognizing
quantities, comparing numbers, and understanding the relationships between them.

Examples:

 A child instantly recognizing that there are three apples on the table without counting
(subitizing).
 A child understanding that 5 is more than 3.
