• Chapters 4, 5 and 6
Question 1 and 2 are based on the following information. Consider the figure below, which is a
combination of half circles, a rectangle and triangles.

Question 1

Calculate the perimeter of the figure, in meters, and round off your answer to two decimal digits.

[1] 1.03m

, [2] 7.14m
[3] 0.71m
[4] 71.42m

Answer:

Perimeter (P) The distance around the outside of a shape (sum of all sides)
Rectangle C = 2 (l + w)
Square C=4l
Triangle C=a+b+c
Circle C = 2 π^r

Irregular figures: The perimeter is simply the sum of the lengths of all the sides.

Given: A circle with r = 10cm.
The circumference is calculated as
𝐶 = 2𝜋𝑟
= 2×𝜋 ×5
≈ 31,42
The circumference of the circle is 31,42cm.

𝐶 = 10𝑐𝑚 + 10𝑐𝑚 + 31,42𝑐𝑚 + 10𝑐𝑚 + 10𝑐𝑚 = 71,42𝑐𝑚

71,42 cm to m:
We know that 100cm = 1m.
Therefore
71,42
71,42𝑐𝑚 = = 0,71𝑚
100
71,42𝑐𝑚 is equal to 0,71𝑚
