The leader I have chosen to write about who has exhibited exemplary ethical conduct in
their leadership is Vince Checker. Vince is a previous manager of mine who worked at a small
start-up company. Every interaction I had with Vince was positive, and ethics were always at the
forefront of his mind.
A1. Discuss two ethical traits your chosen leader has demonstrated
Two ethical traits that my chosen leader has demonstrated are transparency and fairness.
In business, there are many opportunities to be transparent and fair, and Vince never missed one.
Transparency and fairness are shown in communicating with employees and dealing with current
customers and prospective customers. Vince has expressed many times that he would rather be
seen as fair rather than unfair or deceitful.
A2. Explain how your chosen leader has exhibited ethical conduct.
Working for Vince, I learned a lot about how to be a great leader, but making sure you
always do the right thing was most important. Our company was a software startup, and being an
early-stage software company, the pricing model changes rapidly, and you end up having
customers at several different prices for the software. Many situations came up where we had to
revisit pricing for customers because they discovered that another company was getting it
cheaper. Vince and I made sure to be transparent about what other customers were paying and
why they had a different price than them, and we always had a well-thought-out plan for what
would be fair for the customer and our company. We had to have these conversations on a
