Security Principles and Practices I
SECTION A
QUESTION 1
A security official can use private defense when they are trying to protect themselves
or someone else from being harmed. This usually happens when someone is being
attacked, and there is no other way to stop the danger except by defending themselves.
However, the response must match the level of the threat — it should not be more
violent than needed.
For example, if a security guard sees someone trying to stab another person with a
knife, the guard can step in and physically stop the attacker to protect the victim. If
needed, the guard can use force, like tackling or restraining the attacker, but they
cannot use deadly force unless their own life or someone else's life is in real danger.
