 What two Domains are prokaryotes classified into?

 Bacteria as agents of disease:
o Are most bacteria pathogenic?
o What does pathogenic mean?

 Understand the tools used to classify bacteria:
o cellular morphology (used when looking at bacteria through a microscope)
 size
 shape
 bacillus (rod)
 coccus (round)
 spirillum (spiral)
 grouping
 strepto (in a chain) ex: streptobacillus
 staphylo (clustered into a group) ex: staphylococcus

o Biochemical/Physiological Characteristics (did not test this in your lab)

o Colonial Characteristics (used when looking at bacteria colonies growing in dish)
 size
 shape (rough or smooth edge)
 color
 transparent or opaque (can you see through it or not)
 Know how to use the dichotomous key (pg. 17) to identify the 4 bacterial colony types
that we showed you in lab.

 Explain the difference between the null vs. alternate hypothesis.

 When comparing two populations of bacteria, you learned how to use a P value.
