SOLUTION
Fundamentals of Security
Provide early and accurate warning, Provide reaction time and maneuver
space, Orient on the force, area, or facility to be protected, Perform
continuous recon, Maintain ENY contact
Rearward passage of lines
occurs when a unit passes through another unit's position while moving
away from the enemy
Commander's Reconnaissance Guidance
Focus, Tempo, Engagement/Disengagement Criteria, Bypass criteria
Threat Template
graphically depicts the threat's preferred deployment patterns, dispositions,
and capabilities for a type of operation, when not constrained by OE effects
Situation Template
is a graphic overlay that depicts the threat's expected disposition upon the
threat's selection of COA. Typically, the SITEMP is accomplished by
overlapping the THREATEMP with the MCOO
Event Template
a guide for collection planning that depicts the NAIs where activity, or its
lack of activity, will indicate which COA the adversary has adopted (Time
phase lines, NAIs, Decision Points (ENY))
Mission Variables
Mission, Enemy, Terrain, Terrain and Weather, Time and Support
Available, Civil Considerations, Informational Considerations
Civil Considerations
Areas, Structures, Capabilities, Organizations, People, Events
Fundamentals of Reconnaissance
Ensure continuous reconnaissance, do not keep reconnaissance assets in
reserve, orient on the reconnaissance objective, report information rapidly
and accurately, retain freedom of maneuver, gain and maintain enemy
contact, develop the situation rapidly
Types of Reconnaissance
Route, Zone, Area, Recon in Force, Special
Reconnaissance Tempo
Rapid, Forceful, Stealthy, Deliberate
, Reconnaissance Techniques

Passage of Lines
An operation in which a force moves forward or rearward through another
force's combat positions with the intention of moving into or out of contact
with the enemy
Decision Point
a point in space and time when a commander or staff anticipates making a
key decision concerning a specific COA
Security Operation
conducted to provide early and accurate warning of enemy operations, to
provide the protected force with time and maneuver space to react to the
enemy, and to develop the situation to allow the commander to effectively
employ the protected force
EEFI
critical aspect of a friendly operation that, if known by the enemy, would
subsequently compromise, lead to failure, or limit success of the operation
and therefore should be protected from enemy detection
Key Terrain
Any location or area of which the seizure, retention or control affords a
marked advantage to either side
High Value Target
target that enemy commanders require for the successful completion of
their mission
High Payoff Target
target whose loss to the enemy will significantly contribute to the success of
the friendly COA
