Some opening thoughts about “Information Quality” – IQ1.1
Information is VERY hard to talk about – it’s a subject of study on its own.
For example:
What is information? Is it a thing, a process, a relationship?
And is there a boundary between knowing and feeling?
Consider the DIKW hierarchy
Where is the Life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?
[Incidentally this DIKW hierarchy grew from the expression of a poet, T S Eliot:
an Anglo-American poet whose day job for 8 years was in banking
which he left to be a businessman/publish
A fool sees not the same tree as a wise man – William Blake, 1757-1827, another poet
For now, we will simplify, perhaps oversimplify and work on the basis that
information comprises facts on which one can act.
