1. KUNST

= nooit de bedoeling om functioneel te zijn (kan wel functioneel zijn)
o Iets autonoom
o Moet niet passen bij meubels (= decoratie)


2. DESIGN

= wel de bedoeling (intentie) om functioneel te zijn
DEFINITIE
= Een designproduct is ontworpen met de intentie industrieel vervaardigd te worden en dus
op grote oplagen verspreid te worden, daarnaast heeft het altijd een functionele waarde,
hetzij reëel, hetzij intentioneel.
o Intentie om industrieel vervaardigd te worden
o Gemaakt door een designer
o Vaak objecten die een bijzondere, opvallende vorm hebben
o De objecten die een betekenis hebben gehad in de geschiedenis en die we vandaag nog
steeds kennen
o Moeten een culturele waarde hebben (bv ecologisch verantwoord, speelt in op de
verandering van de maatschappij)
o De tijdsgeest is zeer belangrijk!
▪ Veranderende maatschappij, nieuwe gedachten en gebruiken… gaat designers
inspireren en beïnvloeden
