Unit 15AB: Electrical Circuits and their Applications

Issue date: 01/11/2021 13:05

Deadline: 7/02/22 @ 16:30

Introduction:

In this assignment I have been tasked with demonstrating my knowledge relating to the properties
of circuit components, units, symbols, definitions and relationships for use in constructing parallel
and series circuits.

Within the assignment I'll show my ability to relay the information that I've learned while
researching for this assignment, which includes measuring electrical values and the electrical
construction of household appliances.

The goal of this assignment is to increase and relay my knowledge of electricity in physics and cover
the parts relevant to the topic of this assignment, like the electrical units, definitions and symbols. I’ll
be going over the definitions of terms such as; Current, Potential Difference, Electrical charge,
Resistance, Conductance, Electrical Power and Capacitance, as well as the formulae and
relationships regarding Kirchoff’s first and second rules and Ohm’s Law while trying to and hopefully
succeeding to explain how they are used in and relate to electrical circuits. We will build parallel and
series circuits and I’ll be showing how we find the capacitance in both forms of electrical circuits.

I’ll also be going over the uses of materials and electrical properties of conductors, semi-conductors
and insulators and why they are constructed in the way that they are and the potential dangers of
not constructing them in the manner that we do.

Glossary of Terms

Electrical Charge (coulomb)

Coulomb, in the “international system of units” is used for the unit of electrical charge, symbolized
as “C” and is defined as the amount of electric energy moved in one second relating to a current of
one ampere.

Current (ampere)

Ampere, which is commonly shortened to amp, in the “international system of units” is the base unit
of electric current and is named after and invented by André-Marie Ampére”, a french physicist and
mathematician, also widely considered as the father of electromagnetism and electrodynamics.
Current, which is the same as Ampere, represents a flow of charged particles including ions and
