, In this report I will examine strategies for developing public health policy to
improve the health of individuals and the population and the factors influencing
health and the impact of addressing these factors to improve public health.
The origins and aims of public health policy
To ensure that people in the UK would receive free healthcare, the National
Health Service (NHS) was introduced. It was decided that the NHS would be
completely financed by tax and would benefit every person in the country from
birth to death. This enables people to be given diagnosis and treatment of any
illness, either in their own home or in hospital, this included dental and
ophthalmic care, despite of their capability to pay. The NHS has had a significant
effect on the nation’s health, bettering the health of millions.
The strategies used to develop public health policy for it to meet its aims
There are many strategies that are used to advance the public health policy,
these can recognise ways that health issues can be prevented/overcome. These
strategies are essential as public health needs to be developed regularly as the
needs of the population is constantly changing. There are three main strategies
that are used in developing public health. The agencies that the Department of
