UNIT 8: PHYSIOLOGY OF HUMAN BODY SYSTEMS)
(UNIT A: UNDERSTAND THE IMPACT OF DISORDERS OF THE
MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM AND THEIR ASSOCIATED
CORRECTIVE TREATMENTS)
The skeletal system:
The skeletal system involves all the bones in the body, including cartilage,
ligaments, and joints which gives crucial functions for the human body.
The skeletal system has 5 major function, which are:
Protection, movements, and support
When a person moves can sense how the bones support the person,
facilitates the movement, and protects the vital organs of the human body.
The cartilages and bones are the scaffold to support the weight of the whole
body. If a person didn’t have the skeletal system, there would only be a mass
of muscles and skin on the floor. Bones gives the facility of movement by
serving as points of attachment for your muscles. Bones also have the
function of protecting vital organs from injury by surrounding or protect
them like the cranium protecting the brain, or the ribs protecting the lung
and heart.

Mineral and fat storage, blood cell formation
The tissue of the bone has multiple functions. The bone stores some
important minerals, mainly phosphorus and calcium. The minerals in the
bone tissue, can be released into the bloodstream to keep the levels needed
to support physiological processes. Calcium for example, are needed for
muscle contractions and are involved in the transmission of nerve impulses.
Bones also stores fat and makes blood cell production. The connective tissue
that fills the interior of most bones is known as bone marrow.
There are two types of bone marrow. The red bone marrow and yellow
bone marrow. Yellow bone marrow contains adipose tissue, and the fats
stored in the adipocytes of this tissue can be released to act as a source of
energy for the body. Red bone marrow is where the production of blood
cells takes place. Platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells are all
produced in the red bone marrow. As people get older, the distribution of
yellow and red bone marrow changes.

THE BONE:
When we recently at birth, we contain about 270 soft bones. While growing
up, some of the bones fuse, and when people reach the adulthood, they
have 206 bones. The femur is the largest bone in the human body, and the
smallest bone is the stapes located in the middle ear, length of 3mm long.
The bones are mainly made of collagen (protein), which bureaucracy a
tender framework. Calcium phosphate, the mineral hardens the framework,
