Unit 2: D1
In this D1, I will evaluate how managing resources and controlling budget costs within the
business contributes to the improvement in the business performance of Jute Fashions Ltd.
I’ve divided this piece of evaluation in two parts;
1) Managing resources
Physical Resources – resources that can be accessed by an organisation in appearance of
buildings and all the other machineries required in-order to keep the business running are
known as physical resources. In simple words, anything a business uses which can be touched
or felt is considered to be the physical resource of that particular business or even institution.
Some of the physical resources which Jute Fashions Ltd has are:
Building and facilities – the building is the actual store where Jute Fashions work and their
facilities include the aisle areas, tills, automatic doors, elevators, clean washrooms, staff room
and so on. They also have parking areas for the staff and customers a Google translator in the
store especially for non-English speaking customers. All this is for the promotion and
advertising of the business through the services and products they sell and give. The staff
room is obviously for the staff during their work break. The tills are attached to the aisles,
where the customer pays for whatever he/she chooses to buy. Other facilities like automatic
doors, elevators, washrooms are to ensure that all customers are made comfortable and happy
with the service at Jute Fashions. Jute Fashions would make sure that no customer leaves
unsatisfied as every happy customer counts in the success of their business. This way, they
are working towards maximising their profits.
Materials and Waste – Jute Fashions Ltd always works towards getting more sustainable
day by day. They are trying to minimise the impact they have on the environment by
rethinking, reducing and recycling. Respecting the environment, they do regular collection of
litter around their store. They have installations of recycling units in a thousand of UK
restaurants. Firstly, the company name “Jute Fashions” itself tells us a lot about the company.
All of its products are eco-friendly as they’re mainly made from Jute plants. They use paper
packaging for its products and have completely banned plastic, helping our environment. All
the waste (which is just paper now) is then sent to specialist recycling centres who reproduces
them. The store has 100% LED lighting, using 50% less energy than fluorescent lights.
Planned Maintenance and Refurbishment – Jute Fashions store is updated with regular
cleaning and painting because they want their store to look presentable and attractive for
customers and inspectors. The business aims towards a better working environment for the
staffs so they’re kept interested, and therefore continue to give their 100% in the work and
still prefer to stay in or within the business for long. The machines which Jute Fashions Ltd
owns, e.g. the tills, self-checkout counters, CCTV cameras require frequent check-ups to
ensure that they are working correctly. This will help avoid customer complaints regarding
improper equipment. The store is refurbished whenever needed to keep the costs reduced and
keeping up with the required standard. If the work place is kept clean, the staff will feel
