, WHY IS LAW REFORM NEEDED?
- Important to keep the law under review to
ensure it is reformed when necessary
- Must adapt to social change (many laws in
previous centuries no longer fit today’s
society)
Most legislation stands until it is REPEALED (just
because it is out of date it doesn't cease to exist)
Eg. the current law relating to everyday assaults is
contained in an Act of Parliament dating to 1861:
contains very old language and terminology)
Changes to the law can be done by
- JUDGES
- PARLIAMENT
- VARIOUS LAW REFORM BODIES (law commission)
