Assignment 3
Photosynthesis:
Photosynthesis is generally respiration in reverse. It takes place in mostly plants,
but also some bacteria such as cyanobacteria. The process involves plants
converting sunlight, carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. Unlike
animals and humans, plants do not have to digest food in order to get their
energy. Instead plants photosynthesise and react chemically which leaves them
with their own type of food, allowing them to survive. Photosynthesis also is vital
for humans to survive as it releases oxygen into the atmosphere.
Carbon dioxide + water glucose + oxygen
6CO2 + 6H2O C6H12O6 + 6O2
If chemical reactions are going to take place within the plant and food is going to
be made, plants must firstly have carbon dioxide which they take from the air.
Carbon dioxide enters the plant through the stomata which is on the underside of
the leaf.

The plant must also have water which they receive from the ground. Water is
absorbed into the plant through the root hair cells and xylem vessels transport
the water to the leaf.
