Describe the advantages, compared to other methods, of producing drawings
electronically using a CAD package
CAD which stands for computer aided drawing is a software which is used by
architects, engineers, artists and many more to create and aid in 2D and 3D
drawing. In this assessment I will describe the advantage of using CAD over
other methods of drawing such as manual drafting, model making etc.
CAD provides a much
higher resolution and
accuracy while drawing
than other methods of
drawing as the software
can work within 1/72 of
an inch. The software
also provides measuring
tools to increase
precision and accuracy.
CAD can create both 2D
and 3D drawings which
can be viewed from any
angle, rotated, reflected
and many more. This will make it easier for the user to use as the software
provides many more options that other drawing methods which will result in
saving time and money. Being able to view the drawing from any angle give a
clearer image of the drawing and make it easier for users to make
improvements. Any drawing that are produced using CAD are high quality due
to the high resolution and the many featured provided by the software. CAD
also prevents costly mistakes that can occur during designing or production,
this will ensure that money and time is saved. CAD allows the user to try
different colour and texture without risk as the user can just undo mistakes or
things they don't like. Another advantage of using CAD over other drawing
method is that it saves time as parts of drawings can be saved and used
multiples times in other drawings. Another way CAD saves times is that the
file can be easily saved and transferred to multiple users and computers, this
will save time while also making it easier to share ideas. Drawing that have
been produced using CAD can easily be edited and modified, at any time to
improve the drawing or to fix any errors. CAD can also be used to calculate
material quantities and cost which helps the user and the manufacture as it
gives a clear idea of the cost.
